Although I hate Hollywood’s love for making movies out of events in a person’s iCal — like Valentine’s Day, New Year’s Eve and now Prom — I was inspired by today’s release of Prom. The movie looks silly, but it got me thinking about all of the great TV proms we’ve seen over the years. So here’s a list of some super classic television proms.
The O.C. – “The Party Favor”
Is there anything better than Summer Roberts giving a drunken Prom Queen acceptance speech with her famous Korean rock star date? No, I don’t think so. This episode had Volchok (Cam Gigandet) stealing money and cheating on Marissa, Seth trying to win Summer back and Ryan nearly killing Volchok in a cliffhanger!
The second best moment of the episode? Summer puking after realizing that Cohen loves her. That’s romance in The O.C. for you!
Degrassi – “We Built This City”
When it’s 2007 and you get Natasha Bedingfield to perform at your prom, it seems like things are lining up for a night of perfection. Unfortunately, this is Degrassi — that means there have to be three key elements: Drama, Drama, Drama!
Liberty kisses Damian, even though her date Toby likes her and Damian is Emma’s boyfriend. Somehow she’s forgiven because of a riveting graduation speech. Damian is dumped. And the Degrassi kids live to fight another day of crystal meth addiction, child porn and dead end jobs at the Dot.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer – “The Prom”
Prom’s already hard enough, but when your vampire boyfriend dumps you and some loser unleashes hell hounds thirsty for the blood of Sunnydale students in formal wear, you can forget about bitching over your corsage.
After Buffy kills the hell hounds, she shows up looking beautiful and wins an award as “Class Protector.” Sheesh, it’s the least they could do.
Beverly Hills 90210 – “Spring Dance”
Beverly Hills 90210 had an actual prom episode where Brenda and Dylan are on the brink of breaking up, but the episode “Spring Dance” is so much more fun. Why? Just look at that photo! Brenda and Kelly are like totally pissed when they find that they’re wearing the same ugly dress with bows and matching hideous bangs!
Plus Brenda and Dylan take their relationship “to the next level” while Andrea — who’s pissed about Spring Princess Kelly stealing her date — watches prom horror movies at home and dreams about chasing Kelly with a chainsaw! Also, Donna’s dress is ridiculous too.
Make It or Break It – “Save the Last Dance”

Payson looks pretty good for someone in need of an experimental back procedure. Emily looks pretty when her whining is limited. Photo: TV.com
This episode makes the list because it’s totally absurd. When does Payson go to high school? How does Payson get so many people who don’t go to her school into prom for free? Why is Emily being whiny about Damon (as per usual)? Why was the episode before this Valentine’s Day?
In other news, Lauren spends a lot of time trying to separate Kaylie and Carter, who loves Kaylie but can’t wait forever. She also discovers her dad is dating Chloe! Man, those Rock girls bring trouble everywhere they go, huh?
Gossip Girl – “Valley Girls”

Blair's prom dress was so beautiful. Aside from the 80's flashbacks, prom was a fairy tale. Photo: Fashion Spot
Even though this was one of the worst Gossip Girl episodes ever made — thanks CW for trying to ram a bad spinoff down our throats! — the actual prom in “Valley Girls” was great.
Blair’s dreams were all coming true: she got her fairy tale dress, her handsome prom date and was crowned prom queen (thanks to Chuck rigging the vote!).

But Blair quickly realizes that she doesn’t want prince charming, she misses her dark knight. Prom ends with Serena learning a lot about her mom’s crazy 80’s past and both girls being sad, but looking fabulous!
Which TV prom is your favorite? Which outfits were the best? Tell me in the comments!
DEGRASSI FTW! (Except for Manny’s bangs. That was never a good look for her.) I love all of these shows/episodes. Thanks for posting!!
I’m impressed, I need to say. Really hardly ever do I encounter a weblog that’s both educative and entertaining, and let me inform you, you might have hit the nail on the head. Your concept is excellent; the problem is something that not enough individuals are talking intelligently about. I’m very joyful that I stumbled across this in my seek for one thing relating to this.
