With Greek and Huge gone and Pretty Little Liars taking off, ABC Family has been looking to add more original programming to their “new kind of family.” They’ve got three new series coming soon.
The first is The Great State of Georgia, which is exciting for just one reason: Raven Symoné!
The plot sounds a little boring — she and her nerdy friend live in New York and Raven is an aspiring plus-sized actress — but it’s Raven! Didn’t we all love That’s So Raven? Heck yes we did! Hopefully this will be a real comeback instead of what it sounds like: a drawn out version of Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen.
Show number two is Switched at Birth, which revolves around two girls who were mistakenly — you guessed it — switched at birth! Anyone who’s seen Sister Sister can guess how the story will go — one girl is wealthy and living in a ritzy neighborhood while the other is living with her single mother before the two teen girls meet, discover the truth and everyone tries to live together in one house as a big, dysfunctional family. Only there’s a twist (aside from these girls not being black or twin sisters or having the added bonus of Jackeé): one sister is deaf.
I hope ABC Family answers some questions because based on this photo both families seem a little dumb — these girls totally look like they’re with the wrong family! Plus this all could have been avoided if the hospital had sent each baby home with the right family! (There better be legal repercussions!) There’s also the added bonus of Lucas Grabeel aka Ryan Evans from High School Musical being on this show. (Please let there be a dance number!) Hopefully Switched at Birth will prove to be better than it sounds (and looks), because right now it kind of sounds like every parents’ nightmare and makes me miss Sister Sister. Unless Roger comes climbing into their bedroom I don’t know if I’ll be happy.
The last show joining the line-up is The Nines Lives of Chloe King. If you’re thinking this show is going to be about a girl who’s not really human, well kudos to you!
According to a press release Chloe, “starts developing heightened abilities and discovers she’s being pursued by a mysterious figure. Chloe soon learns she’s part of an ancient race which has been hunted by human assassins for millennia — and that she may be their only hope for ultimate survival!”
Um, Ok? This kind of just makes me miss The Secret World of Alex Mack. Is Chloe King going to wear fun Blossom hats and turn herself into silver computer-animated liquid-gel? I hope so! I’m a little worried, based on the name and squatting position, that Chloe is going to end up being a cat-person and there will be a story in hieroglyphs and weird rituals with cat hair and lame special effects of her jumping really high a la The Boy Who Cried Werewolf.
Do you like the sound of any of ABC Family’s upcoming shows? Do you think they’ll be good competition for the CW’s failing shows? Do any of them sound like a good replacement for Greek or Huge? Tell me in the comments!
