May sweeps begins this Thursday, signaling the approach of plot twists and the climatic season finales for many of our favorite teen shows. TV experts are working double time to pick up on any show spoilers for their fans. But just as big as show spoilers is the possibility of show cancellations and character mix-ups.
This week Taylor Momsen of Gossip Girl was interviewed by Entertainment Weekly to talk about why she doesn’t wear pants, how she isn’t “close with [her] cast,” and why she loves her music. Momsen’s music career with her band, Pretty Reckless, is starting to kick off with a track on the Kick Ass soundtrack and the release of their album this summer.
Momsen also said, “I’m going to be on tour,” at the start of next season. She added, “As far as next season goes I don’t really know what’s going on. I don’t wanna talk about that because it’s up in the air. At the end of the season, you’ll see.”
Woah, could Little J be leaving GG? Is it something the writers wanted or is it so Momsen can continue with her music career, which she admittedly prefers to acting? Only the GG season finale (involving Chuck Bass and the Empire State Building, apparently not in a good way) will tell.
In other news, One Tree Hill lovers (do people still watch that show?) and Life Unexpected fans (wait, people ever watched that show?) may be in for some bad news. Neither show has been confirmed for next season. At least not yet. Fans will have to wait for a final decision on May 20.
While Life had solid numbers with the 18-34 demographic, and great reviews from critics (not sure which show they were watching), it hasn’t quite charmed the CW into giving it a sophomore season. Especially since its vying for its time slot. The competition? One Tree Hill.
One Tree Hill is looking for a season eight. The show, which has been on the air since 2003, gets 2.4 million viewers to date, on par with the past 4 seasons. The fact that people still watch this show even after the horrible “Haley is a singer and she and Nate are married and Nate’s mom is a cougar” story line is amazing. Maybe it deserves another season?
However, there are some reports that stars are jumping ship. Sophia Bush, who has played the deliciously devious Brooke, is making a pilot for the ABC comedy Southern Discomfort. And though her contract still gives the CW first dibs on the actress it’s rather interesting that she’s joining a new show.
It’s up in the air until May 20 when the CW makes its final announcement on the matter.
Apparently everyone hates ABC Family’s 10 Things I Hate About You. is in the danger zone! An executive producer tweeted “show is on the bubble and we need all the eyeballs we can get!” For some reason, this is one ABC Family show that isn’t bringing in an audience. Although they’re filming 10 episodes, there’s no word on whether it’s being picked up for another season. Maybe they need Julia Stiles to make a guest appearance or someone to say witty lines like, “Talking about my fenders doesn’t exactly whip me into a verbal frenzy”.
And in case you didn’t already know, Glee is holding open casting calls for anyone interested in joining the show. The nationwide search will lead to the addition of three new characters (one is Kurt’s boyfriend! Chris Colfer who plays Kurt said, “I don’t want him to be prettier than me. That would be my only request.”).
While this news is very exciting, is anyone else worried about adding even more characters to a show that adds someone new with almost every episode? The show already seems to be turning into the Rachel Berry show (been done Fox, it was called Spring Awakening). Do we have room for more?
Well, there’s always room for another good teen show. TV watchers are all buzzing about ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars (made by the people behind Gossip Girl and The Vampire Diaries), which E! described perfectly as the baby of, “Desperate Housewives, ’90s slasher flick I Know What You Did Last Summer and just a splash of Mean Girls.”
This preview aired during Beauty and the Briefcase proves that there will be no Emmy’s for acting and it didn’t really do the supposedly “murderous” and “twisting” plot any justice. Hopefully the show will be just as dramatic, dark, mean, and fun as described by all who’ve seen it.
Well, a lot is going on in the world of teen dramas! Sounds like lots of surprises are in store for fans! Are you hoping Little J will be gone? Wanting more 10 Things? Are you over One Tree Hill? Auditioning for Glee? Tuning in for Pretty Little Liars?
All I know is I’m dying to hear if there will be a second season for Pretty Wild! A mom giving out adderall?! Daughters pole dancing and maybe going to jail?! Ryan Cabrera still sings?! That’s obviously pure TV brilliance!
